But no amount of professional growth could prepare her for what was to come next.

February 2007. Michelle was just 24 years old when her life was turned upside down in a moment that defied comprehension.
A car accident at work — sudden, random and cruel — left her pinned between a vehicle and a brick wall. The result? The traumatic amputation of her right leg on the spot.
In the midst of the emergency surgeries, overwhelming pain and rapid physical change, Michelle faced something far deeper: a shattering of identity and future plans.
She and Mark were ten months away from their wedding. Would he still want to go through with it?
Her voice trembled as she asked him. His reply was immediate:
“Of course I do.”
That unwavering response from Mark was more than romantic — it was foundational. It was a promise to face life, in all its unpredictability, together.
🏃 From Survivor to Paralympian
Recovery wasn’t just physical — it was mental, emotional, spiritual.
Michelle’s early goals were simple, yet profound: walk down the aisle in her wedding dress. Dance at the reception. Stand tall, in every sense of the word.
But soon, those goals grew.
Despite never having been athletic, Michelle discovered a new drive. She was fitted with a prosthetic running blade — one she initially couldn’t even walk in. Through pain and persistence, she began to run.
Introduced to adaptive sports through the Australian Paralympic Committee, Michelle found a new identity — one not defined by loss, but by power.
By 2012, she was representing Australia at the London Paralympic Games, placing 5th in the world in the T42 category.
From the hospital bed to the world stage — that journey says everything about who Michelle is.
Her Paralympic chapter was more than medals and rankings. It was about showing up, choosing joy, and defying every limit placed before her.
